Typcaste

INDIA

Design as provocation.

Typcaste is an independent brand design studio in Mumbai built by futurists, strategists, and designers who believe design is most powerful when it asks the right question before it draws anything. We developed the complete brand identity, website, illustration system, and sticker pack—a visual language that practises exactly what the studio preaches: restless, recomposable, and impossible to mistake for anyone else.

CHALLENGE

How do you make radical thinking look serious—without making it look safe?

Typcaste operates in a difficult middle ground—a studio with genuine intellectual rigour and a genuine appetite for disruption, pitching to clients who want transformation but arrive conditioned to expect decoration. The challenge was building an identity credible enough for traditional corporations and provocative enough for founders who want their brand to mean something. The name itself carries the weight of the brief: a deliberate provocation on typography and India's social structures, signalling that this studio designs against assumptions—including the assumption of what a design studio should look like.

CONCEPT

Type as Argument

The visual identity is built around deliberate instability—letterforms that shift between structured and fluid across every application, embodying the studio's core conviction that brands should evolve rather than calcify. A bold black-and-white foundation is punctuated by unexpected colour interventions: not decoration, but argument. Custom illustrations and a sticker pack extend the system beyond the formal and into the cultural—a brand equally at home in a boardroom presentation and on a city wall. The logo is the provocation in practice: the same mark, recomposable across every context, identical to nothing that came before it.
